What's In A Name
I love digging into family trees — following the trail of who came before, where they lived, and the curious jobs they did.
Surnames are often my first clue. My mum’s, Beeton, may have French roots. My dad’s, Williams, is proudly Welsh. Behind them I’ve found farmers, shopkeepers, and the odd surprise in the records.
Some surnames come from trades (Smith, Cooper), some from places (Hill, Brook), and some from nicknames so unusual you can’t help but wonder about the story.
Every name has a history — and I can’t resist finding out more about it.
